Sing with me!
Sing with me!
This song is actually a poem written by one of the most famous Pashto poets: Ghani Khan. He wrote it after the death of his son, and it is a favorite of most Pashtuns. This is the translation: Ghani is eaten by grief, like that which has no cure (by religious verse or traditional healing spells). The whole world is eyes, eyes, but does not have the eyes of my beloved
Final exams are rapidly approaching. Pray for me as I study and try to remember all I learned this semester. I’m still amazed that I am here. Most foreigners aren’t allowed in, only to visit shortly. But here I am studying and living in a compound with 600 girls from all over KPK.
Praise God I am making more friends in the hostel as my language is improving, so those girls who don’t speak English now have the confidence to talk to me since it’s in their native language. Most of the friends I made at first are in their last semester, so they are graduating in June.
Praise God I had a good time this weekend with the new family who agreed to be my guardians. They are a very humble, sweet family and very welcoming. Their oldest son and their brother-in-law were both killed because of their testimony. Praise God for the faithful remnant in a land of darkness.
The Vice Chancellor (head of the whole college who, to my great humor, is to be addressed as “the worthy vice chancellor”) called me to a meeting and promised to address all my concerns about lack of water, electricity, etc. and also promised to move me to another room that isn’t so hot. So we will see if it actually gets done now, but he is the top man in the whole university, so we all listen to him. It definitely helps to have such a high position in the college as their only foreign student- and they take the treatment of guests very seriously. So thank God because I have been praying for help as it is too difficult in 110 degree weather to not have proper facilities. Here BS is four years, but sharia law is a five-year degree. One girl has been here in the hostel for five years, and she is the only girl in all KPK who is in the student political organizations. So she organized protests and went to the college authorities when there were problems in the hostel. She was worried when she would leave that none of the girls would stand up in her place since they’re all so timid. But now that I’m here I’ll represent the needs of the hostel girls that go largely unaddressed. The boys’ hostels don’t have as many problems because they all have student organizations that stand up against the college authorities, but the girls are not listened to, and they are scared to speak up.
Pray for me this summer as I plan to visit some places. There’s a group of believers that goes camping in the northern areas that I will be joining. Pray for provision for the workers in Pakistan
Thank you all for praying! Khoda haafiz
