Very Hot Ministry!

 Very Hot Ministry!
With over 100 degrees weather and no AC anywhere, studying and staying alive has become rather difficult! In particular, trying to sleep at night is so bad. The nights are cool, but my room stays so hot even with the fan and the window, it’s too bad. Last night I spent part of the night outside because the air was cool outside, but my room was stifling even with the fan and window open. You’re not supposed to sleep in the courtyard, so when the early morning (4:00am) call to prayer sounded, I woke up and rushed back to my room before anyone came out. Pray for me to adjust and handle the heat. When the electricity cuts off, then fans aren’t even available.

I’m finishing up my midterms, pray. I continue to finish them. Pray I remember and learn a lot of the language. I am picking up and understanding more and more.

I got to tour the perpetually locked museum of Pashto culture on the university of Peshawar campus. Their old gatekeeper retired, and they just didn’t hire a new one. They discovered that he was stealing and selling the artifacts, so then they chose to keep the museum closed to the public now. But I made friends with the Pashto Academy Bookshop owners, and they let me in. It was interesting to see how the ancient jewelry still closely resembles the jewelry my Afghan friends wear.

Pray for a couple of workers here who are in need of employment. Pray an opportunity is opened for them.

Pray for me to find a more solid Christian community and families here.

Pray for continued relationships and conversations with the people here. So many people here are hurting. Many of the girls have lost their mothers as life expectancy is very low here. Poverty and ill weather affect the majority population. Tribal, political, and family tensions lead to many murders; hopelessness in the situation here leads to many suicides. Last night, when I was lying outside around 1:00am, I heard rapid fire. Almost every night I hear controlled, intermittent shooting, but this was quick rounds followed by a man screaming horribly in pain, and after another round the screaming ceased. His scream was like nothing I had ever heard. Pray for the people living in darkness that a light will dawn on them.

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭107‬:‭6‬ ‭

Thank you for praying
