One Month In
Thank you all for praying. I have now been here a little over a month. Things are going well, classes have started, things have become routine.
Please pray as the election is soon and with that always comes turmoil. Especially because the main candidate is still currently incarcerated by the opposing party.
Pray for connections and friendships to be made here. It is very mentally exhausting following along in class all day because it requires extra focus and brainpower to understand a lecture in a foreign language, so when I get back to my hostel I am very tired, and it makes it difficult to have any other interactions. Pray for energy and focus, especially if there isn’t sufficient nutrition.
Several people here have recently lost family members for various reasons. Please pray for them.
Pray for the local church here to be strengthened in maturity and numbers. They are having a wedding soon that I have been invited to attend.
Pray for me to pick up the language. Interestingly enough, reading and writing are easy for me, whereas speaking and understanding are more difficult. Most native speakers have a difficult time reading and writing because people are largely illiterate, or they learn to write Urdu and English only. But as Pashto is very similar to Arabic, my time in the madrassah gave me a solid foundation to learn quickly. I was laughing with one of the gatekeepers because I showed him one of my books, and he said he couldn’t read it, just speak, and I said I can read it but not understand a lot of the meaning because I don’t speak.
Thank you all for praying!
