Afflicted!
Afflicted!
Pashto tappa: O land you are extorting heavily. You take men away in the prime of youth and return an empty product.
Pray for a camp going on soon to mobilize local youth. Pray for the workers hosting it for provision and supply of materials.
Pray for continued protection against the heat! It’s getting to 112 and up next week. No air conditioning. I have been getting nose and throat issues from the hot, dry air constantly blowing on me from the fan. Frequent electricity cuts and no water- but just in my hostel, not in the other hostels. As our complaints went unheard, I decided to go higher up in the chain of command and went right to the registrar. The college has two parallel governments; the vice chancellor is like the queen of England and the registrar is like the prime minister. Students aren’t allowed to go right to him as he is high up, but as I am the only foreign student they’ve ever had, they treat me like I am someone special. So I went and voiced our concerns, and he said he would work to fix it, and even if the electricity cuts off in the middle of the night, he called him, and he would make things happen. It sure helps to have such a lofty position in the college as the only guest! In Pakistan, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, and it’s all honor-based. My role as the only guest is one of high honor, so I’ll play their game to make sure we all get the facilities we need. Pray for wisdom for my time in summer!
Pray for continued relationship building and spiritual conversations. It has become known that I have some words with me, and students have begun coming to me asking me to give them to them. Pray it doesn’t return void. Pray for wisdom as it’s a delicate balance of what I can say and not say in this environment. Pray for deliverance from generations of spiritual strongholds and darkness.
Pray I continue to pick up the language and become fluent. I very much enjoy literature and history, and I am considering pursuing an MPHIL in Pashto, so I will be able to teach.
Thank you for praying, Khoda haafiz!
“If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.” 2 Corinthians 1:6-7
