Lessons in Discipleship (9) دروس في التلمذة

This is Dr. Ed Hoskins, welcoming you to lessons in discipleship series, designed to help new believers become established in their Christian faith.

first, let me tell you a little about myself. I’m a retired physician. I spent 34 years and family medicine and student health. I became a Christian 50 years. And I was helped early in my faith by the navigators Christian organization whose stated goal is to know Christ and to make him know I’ve been on associate staff with that organization since 1980 lessons, his discipleship is a compilation of what I learned during that time.

I now pass on to you today’s session Lordship and personal period.

Peter one 16 says for it is written, be holy for, I am holy it’s the living God saying that in Luke 6 46, Jesus says, why do you call me Lord Lord and do not do what I say in Luke nine. Jesus said, whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves, take up their cross daily and follow me. Lord shouldn’t be as treating Jesus as the holy one.

He actually is. If Jesus is not Lord of all in our lives, he is not Lord at all. I want to tell you a little about a short booklet or written in 1951 from at one of his pastors sermon series, Robert Boyd Munger, a Presbyterian minister. He broke my heart. Christ’s home was a parable about a new believer with Jesus taking up residence in his own body.

What was his purpose was to transform his life. John 14 Jesus road. My father’s house has many rooms that were not. So would I have told you that I’m going there to prepare a place for you in Dr. Monger’s parable? Jesus transforms five rooms in our lives, the library, the dining room, the living room, the work room, and the rec room where we do recreation.

The library, it’s the room of art intellect. It’s what we voluntarily put into our minds every day, the dining room, what our daily appetites, consistent, our hopes, our dreams, our aspirations, the living room. It’s a place of comfort and relationship, the work room. It’s where we build things with our skills and talents and the rec room.

It’s what we do with our hobbies and for entertainment. Each room. Yes, gradually transformed to more closely reflect Christ desires for us in the process. Our lives become more productive and fulfilled. Finally, Christ cleans out the tiny, hidden hall closet where deep, dark and shameful secrets hidden the ultimate solution.

When we teach, I choose to transfer the title deed of our home to Christ for history. He made us originally. He knows what is best for us. This booklet can be found online. It can also be purchased a, you know, an Amazon or read free at lift, put the website below there, but it’s something it’s a domain free.

So enjoy. So why is holiness and personal purity so important first off it’s important fact. It’s absolutely essential in order to see God. Hebrews 12 it’s written make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy without holiness, no one will see the Lord. Second. We can’t follow both Jesus and impurity in Matthew six, Jesus said no one can serve two masters are that you will hate the one and love the other.

Or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and. Also God only uses pure vessels. In second, Timothy it’s written in a large house. There were vessels, not only of gold and silver, but also wood and clay. Some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the ladder will be instruments for special purposes, made holy useful to the master and prepared to do any good.

I’m always reminded if working out, uh, side, uh, in getting hot from a project outside, coming in the house, being very thirsty, going to the, uh, uh, the dining room or excuse me into the kitchen and you open a shelf and, but there’s only two vessels up there. One is a beautiful crystal goblet and the other one is, uh, is a completely clean, cleaned out peanut butter jar.

Which 1:00 AM I going to choose? Well, if the choice becomes easy, when I noticed that there’s a cockroach crawling around inside the crystal goblet, you know, in the same way, God uses clean vessels. Everything in life comes from the heart. Proverbs says above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.

Here are a few practical suggestions for personal periods. First and deciding what to put into our minds, books, movies, songs, et cetera, we just put in anything or whatever everyone else is watching. You know, in Philippians four, eight, Paul writes finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right.

Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely. Whatever is admirable. If anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. That’s quite a, quite a list. John Bunyan. Everyone is familiar with this Pilgrim’s progress from, uh, the 16 hundreds, you know, it’s uh, but he also had a follow-up book called holy war it’s it’s equally good.

And I recommend that you can also find that online. He had what’s called an eye gate and irrigate. It was the way that the evil one Avedon or Satan uses to invade our cities. And so it’s what we choose to look at and what we choose to listen to. Here’s some prep nor practical suggestions. And so on 1 0 1 verse three it’s written, I will look, I will not look with approval on anything that is a vial.

First Thessalonians PI reject every kind of evil. Second Timothy flee, youthful desires, pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. Along with those call on the Lord out of a pure. Proverbs 13 says, make good friends walk with wise men and become wise. A companion of fools suffers harm. Another translation says they will be destroyed.

Here’s another good recommendation description of memory and Psalm one 19 Psalms David wrote, how can a young man keep his way pure by taking heat there too. According to your word by word, I have treasured in my heart that I might not sin against you. Another translation says that word I’ve hidden in my.

So memorizing lots of scripture and hell and boy, this bottom one. It’s so important. Treat any form of pornography as poisoned. I remember one young man who I was counseling and he says, well, he was having struggling with pornography. He said, at least it’s nothing serious, like, like a disease like HIV.

And I told him, you know, it’s worse than HIV. It’s HIV of the soul. It will destroy it. Well, let’s summarize what we’ve learned from some of these brief things. Lordship is intimately associated with God’s holiness because a holy God has chosen to live within us. Be holy because I am. Holy has God. Jesus is either Lord of all in our lives or he is not Lord at all.

Third memorize bass quantities of scripture to help transform our lives to his image. I’ve seen that happen. It can transform and will transform your thought lives. Fourth. If we’re willing to tolerate any impurity in our lives, there’s going to be a bad result. Galatians it’s written do not be deceived.

God is not mocked. It says a man reaps. What he sows, whoever sows to please the flesh from the flesh will reap destruction. Wherever sows to please a spirit from the spirit will reap eternal life. Well, we will see you next time for another session of lessons in discipleship. When we cover the topical memory system.

Well, that wraps up today’s session. Thank you for coming until next time. Keep following you. He’s worth it.
